Take a 5X5

My hope is that you’ve been able navigate this surreal global health crisis as gracefully as possible.  I know we are not precisely in the same boats, but we are definitely swirling in the same storm. This season has brought me moments of overwhelming sadness and separation, devastating grief, and it has surprised me with joy in connecting in fascinating ways.
 
I discovered a practice called 5 by 5, inspired by UT Dallas medical research on brain health. It takes five minutes, five times a day, to unplug, be energized, and stay focused during tasks.   I’ve noticed that when I take a few minutes to step away from the frenzy, it changes the frequency of my energy and, ultimately, is a great stress reliever.

I love to go outside a couple of times a day, breathe in, breathe out, walk around my backyard, and refocus. Sometimes I discover something new, like a beautiful iris bloom, or hear a bird flittering around. I encourage you to develop simple everyday self-care practices, especially to navigate these and other challenging times with purpose and intention.
